U.S. Travel Ban Lifted, International Trade Show Attendees Welcome

 

Earlier this month on November 8, the United States government officially ended its 20-month travel ban for international travelers.

The ban originally blocked travelers from 33 countries, including the United Kingdom, Brazil, South Africa, and China from entering the United States. Now, as long as they can provide proof of vaccination (some exceptions apply), travelers are free to enter the country from all over the world.

The lift of the travel ban is great news for family members and friends who have been unable to see loved ones for nearly two years. It is also an excellent sign to trade show organizers that they can start extending invites to international exhibiting companies once more.

Impact of Lifting the Travel BanAccording to airline executives, people have responded with extreme eagerness to the news of the travel ban being revoked.

Even before the official announcement was made, bookings surged dramatically. For American Airlines, for example, bookings from the United Kingdom and Brazil increased by about 70 percent during the week of November 7.

According to American Airlines’ chief revenue officer, Vasu Raja, the London service is also increasing for American and British Airways, and they’re expected to get back to a pre-pandemic schedule soon.

Requirements for International Visitors Traveling to the U.S.Understandably, you and your team might be a bit nervous about traveling to international trade shows and events after nearly two years of avoiding them. Following these tips for international visitors traveling to the U.S. can ease some of your anxiety and help you to feel more prepared:

Get Vaccinated

If you (or anyone on your team) haven’t already received your COVID-19 vaccination yet, now is the time to do so. The United States is currently requiring all non-immigrant and non-citizen travelers to be fully vaccinated.

There are only a few exceptions to this rule:

  • Children who are under 18
  • Those who (for valid medical reasons) cannot be vaccinated
  • Emergency travelers who haven’t had time to get the vaccine

Get the Appropriate Documents

In addition to proof of vaccination, you and your team will need some specific documents to travel to the United States, including a passport and a non-immigrant visa (except for those traveling from countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program).

Remember, if your country is part of the Visa Waiver Program, you will still need to apply for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) and get approved before you arrive. This application process is fairly simple, but you should still give yourself plenty of time for it just to be safe.

Arrange for Equipment Delivery

You may also need to make special arrangements to have your trade show materials delivered to the convention center or event venue, too. If you’re not bringing your materials with you, you’ll need to collaborate with a shipping carrier that specializes in trade show deliveries to ensure your equipment arrives on time and intact.
